4/5 stars
This is a Rincewind book which means it’s closest to the traditional Hero’s Journey style of narration. Not that he’s much of a hero. But he gets to meet Cohen the Barbarian and his horde who are. So there.
As the title might suggest, Interesting Times is set in China… I mean the Agatean Empire (which is Discworld’s China). It is about intrigue, tea ceremonies, polite rebellion and seven old men taking on an army of seven hundred thousand.
The book is really well-paced, easy to follow and just a good blast all around. Great jokes although some do border on the less sensitive side.
Plus, as I’m noticing in a lot of Pratchett’s book, it’s got a really solid satisfying ending. You might not think back to it much after you’re done, but you’ll have a jolly good time reading it.
