I can’t decouple a single book from the series. The Witcher series is my absolute favourite and this re-re-re…read did not change a thing. Sapkowski’s storytelling is absolutely excellent and this book ties in events, themes and characters long-forgotten from the previous books and even the future one (Season of Storms). It is probably the darkest of them all, but there’s a great joy in there, too.
Since this is the first time I’ve read the series in English, let me say this: the translation is good. Some of my favourite phrases were expressed a little differently than I would have liked, but at no point did I cringe or curse the translator’s name. If you can’t read it in Polish and worry whether to pick it up, go for it. You’re in for a ride.
